Terms and conditions

Last updated: 3 October 2026

Move Near Me is a business name of XE Technologies Pty. Ltd. (ABN 93 685 624 711) (“we”, “us”).

How these terms apply

These terms, together with the price and job details we confirm with you by phone, email or text before your move, make up the whole agreement for your booking. By requesting a quote or confirming a booking you agree to them. You contacted us to ask for a quote, so this is not an unsolicited consumer agreement and the Australian Consumer Law cooling-off rules for those agreements don’t apply.

Estimates and confirmed prices

The price shown in our online quote form is an estimate based on what you tell us. Before your move we call to confirm the crew, truck, rate and any fixed charges. If the move turns out to be materially different from what you described (for example many more items, extra stairs, or an address change), we’ll tell you before we continue and agree any change with you first.

Prices on this website exclude GST. GST (10%) is added to your invoice. A tax invoice is supplied for every job.

Hourly billing

Hourly moves are charged at the confirmed team rate from the time the crew arrives at the first address until the last item is unloaded, plus a fixed 30-minute call-out for travel to and from our depot. There is a 2-hour minimum (not including the call-out). After the minimum, time is billed in 15-minute blocks.

Time spent waiting because the property isn’t ready, a lift isn’t available as arranged, keys aren’t available, or access is blocked is charged at the same rate. Driving time between your addresses is part of the job. Tolls are charged at cost.

Saturday, Sunday and public holiday rates apply to moves on those days, as shown on our price page.

Payment

Payment is due on completion of the move, before the last items are unloaded or immediately after, by bank transfer, card or another method we agree. For large or long-distance moves we may ask for a deposit when you book; we’ll tell you before you confirm.

Cancellations and changes

You can cancel or reschedule free of charge by phone or email at least 48 hours before the booked start time. For cancellations with less notice, a cancellation fee applies: $150 or 50% of the estimate, whichever is less. This covers the crew and truck we reserved for you, which usually can’t be rebooked at short notice. The 48 hours are counted back from the booked start time, and notice is given when we receive your call or email.

If something genuinely unexpected happens (for example illness, an accident or a settlement delay you couldn’t control), call us and we’ll be reasonable about it.

If we cancel or seriously delay your booking without an emergency and without your agreement, we won’t charge you anything and we’ll offer the next available time.

Access, parking and lifts

Please make sure we can get in at the booked time, that any lift bookings, loading dock times and parking permits are arranged, and that there is somewhere legal for the truck to park as close to the door as possible. Charges for stairs ($30 per flight), long carries, lift bookings and difficult parking apply as listed on our price page and confirmed before your move.

Parking fines or permit costs caused by information you gave us (or didn’t give us) about parking are passed on at cost. We won’t park illegally or in a way that is unsafe.

Packing and preparation

If you pack yourself, boxes should be sealed, not overfilled and able to be carried safely by one person. We may decline to move boxes that are open, broken or unsafe, or offer to repack them at the packing rate.

Please empty drawers of fragile, valuable or heavy items, defrost and dry fridges and freezers at least 24 hours before, and disconnect appliances. We don’t disconnect or reconnect gas, plumbing or hard-wired electrical appliances.

Please carry cash, jewellery, important documents, medicines, keys and irreplaceable items yourself.

Items we don’t move

We don’t move dangerous goods, including gas bottles, petrol, fuel-containing equipment that hasn’t been drained, paint, chemicals, ammunition, explosives or asbestos; illegal items; perishable food (unless agreed); plants subject to quarantine for interstate moves; or animals. We may refuse to move any item we reasonably believe is unsafe.

Pianos, heavy and specialist items

Please tell us in advance about pianos, pool tables, safes, gym equipment, aquariums, artwork and anything over about 100 kg. Grand pianos and some specialist items are quoted separately. We don’t tune pianos or level pool tables after the move.

Disassembly

We take apart and put back together standard furniture (beds, desks, tables, wardrobes) when you ask us to, at the price shown. Flat-pack furniture made from particleboard can be weakened by being taken apart; we take care but can’t be responsible for damage caused by the original construction or earlier assembly.

Care of your goods and damage

We use furniture blankets, wrapping and straps, and take care with your belongings and both properties. If something is damaged during the move, please note it on the day where you can, and tell us in writing within 7 days with photos. We’ll work with you to repair, replace or fairly compensate for damage we caused.

We aren’t responsible for damage caused by an item’s existing defects or weakness, by your own packing (for example items broken inside a box you packed that shows no outside damage), or by events outside our control. This doesn’t limit your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

Transit insurance for the value of your goods is not included in our rates. If you’d like it, tick the box in the quote form and we’ll arrange a quote; otherwise check whether your home and contents policy covers goods in transit.

Interstate and regional moves

Moves over 80 km and interstate moves are quoted individually, and the quote will set out the price, what’s included, the expected delivery window and any deposit.

Photos

Photos you send with a quote or enquiry are used only to prepare your quote and do the job, and are stored and deleted as described in our privacy policy. We won’t use photos of your home publicly (for example on our website or social media) without your permission.

Your rights

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, including the guarantee that services will be provided with due care and skill. If any part of these terms is found to be invalid, the rest still applies.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The current version is always on this page. Changes apply to bookings made after the update, not to bookings already confirmed.

Complaints and disputes

If something isn’t right, please contact us first and we’ll do our best to fix it. If we can’t resolve it together, you can contact Consumer Affairs Victoria (consumer.vic.gov.au), and eligible disputes can go to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT).

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and both parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of its courts.
